Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Youth festivals have emerged as significant platforms for talent discovery and development, providing young people with opportunities to showcase their abilities in various fields, including music, art, sports, and entrepreneurship. In Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, youth festivals are increasingly recognized as catalysts for nurturing talent and fostering personal and professional growth. These events bring together young people, industry stakeholders, and audiences, creating a vibrant environment for networking and skill enhancement. Furthermore, youth festivals contribute to community development by encouraging creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among participants (Ahmed & Ojo, 2024). However, despite their potential, the impact of these festivals on talent development in Ilorin South remains underexplored, necessitating an in-depth analysis of their effectiveness.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While youth festivals in Ilorin South LGA provide a platform for talent exhibition, there is limited empirical evidence on their long-term impact on talent development. Many young participants face challenges such as inadequate mentorship, limited exposure to opportunities, and a lack of follow-up programs. This gap in understanding raises questions about the effectiveness of these festivals in translating showcased talent into sustainable development. This study aims to evaluate the contribution of youth festivals to talent development and identify areas for improvement.
